Tutwiler Mississippi in Tallahatchie County has a population of around
3500 people, many lacking health insurance and living below the poverty line.
Sister (and Doctor) Anne Brooks started the Tutwiler Clinic to serve the
medical needs of people whose inability to pay often led them to ignore pressing
medical conditions.
For over thirty-five years she provided front-line access to medical care to the
marginalized, the poor, and the needy.
These photographs reflect a day in the life of the clinic as Dr. Brooks treats patients ranging
in age from birth to the elderly, caring for each of them with dignity and respect.
